A search for meaning...

My definition of what mythology really is about: The simple misson of finding a common history and deep underlying meaning behind our seemingly isolated and unique existances that we call our lives. Is this simply a desperate attempt to connect ourselves with something bigger than we are? Is this the gut reaction to deny ourselves the pain of admitting we are just dust in the wind? Specks of sand in the ocean? Is this just our disllusions of grandure that we perpetuate with bedtime stories we tell our children and that help us sleep peacefully? The undeniable factor in myths is their overwhelming power... the truth and real psychological understanding of mythology and its relevance to our everyday lives is the reason we study it? Perhaps if we can understand why they hold the power and influence that they do, we can come to the innate truth of what myths are.
